Government accused of sweeping green paper under the rug
The government has been accused of neglecting social care in its NHS long-term plan.
The criticism comes from John Woodward OBE, president and co-founder of childcare provider Busy Bees, which is campaigning to introduce adult social care vouchers.
John was instrumental in the introduction of childcare vouchers and is now a critical opponent of the “The Prime Minister says reforming the NHS will save 500,000 lives, but without an integrated health and social care system we’re essentially filling a leaking budget,” Woodward warned.
He argued that the social care green paper, which was promised alongside the NHS plan, has been “silently swept under the rug”.
“But let’s be in no doubt about the fact that our social care system is in crisis. We still have thousands of people waiting for care, leading to 90 needless deaths a day,” he said. “The health service cannot work for everyone until social care is properly funded and fit for purpose, and I hope the government recognises this sooner rather than later.”
